Australia’s Top 50 places to enjoy wine have been named by the country’s leading sommeliers and winemakers
Just as we lead people to exciting and quality wines through the winemaker awards, we want to lead people to places where they can have a fun wine experience…
So now, in our 12th year, we are launching WINESLINGER, an award that searches for, showcases and celebrates Australia’s best wine venues.
The Top 50 wineslingers across Australia for 2018 have been decided, voted by over 100 of Australia’s leading sommeliers and winemakers.
“These panellists are selected for their know-how, their taste, and the fact that they are out and about visiting venues near and afar on a constant basis. They are chosen because they have a keen eye, a killer palate and they know a good time when they see one,” said WINESLINGER editorial director Nick Stock.
Over 300 venues in Australia received votes from the panel, so there is certainly a great depth of esteemed venues around the country in 2018. The Top 50 list is made up of pubs, bars and restaurants, but what ties them together is an excellence in creating an environment where wine enjoyment is the hero. Most importantly, they are all venues with great approachability, energy and adventure.
“Australia offers one hell of a good time for wine lovers and there’s a high bar of quality in a national sense, married with a strong sense of identity and place wherever you go. That makes this list one very handy reference for both locals and visitors right across the country,” added Stock.
The public now get to have their say on who wins… People can vote for their favourite wine venue in the Top 50 at younggunofwine.com/wineslinger. People’s Choice voting closes on Sunday 17 June.
The winners of WINESLINGER will be announced at MONA in Tasmania on Monday 18 June, at the Young Gun of Wine Awards.

With the current ‘situation’, our regular In Five Drinks feature has shifted focus. Rather than picking the brains of industry leading lights to find out where to go out, we’re invading their homes to glean their five liquid staples for staying in. Penny Grant from Ghanem Group (Donna Chang, Blackbird etc.) beamed in from Brisbane with her current faves.
The votes are in. Our 100-strong national panel of the finest winemakers, sommeliers and journalists have had their say, and today we’re pleased to announce the Top 50 Wineslingers for 2019. There’s been plenty of movement from last year, with 19 venues new to the list, but we’ve also seen some of the country’s brightest…
Young Gun of Wine has announced the trophy winners for their 16th annual winemaker awards. Since 2007, the awards have provided an opportunity to connect emerging winemaking talent with wine drinkers, and to support creative talent shaking things up and exploring news ideas in wine. In that time, the awards have expanded and grown.
