About this Deep Dive Pack

Grenache has spent decades as the quiet workhorse of Australian wine – durable, unglamorous, usually playing second fiddle in a blend. McLaren Vale has flipped that script. Over the past decade a wave of producers has pushed the variety from rustic and confected toward something fresher, more savoury and more site-expressive, building a style now drawing serious international attention. To find the wines actually leading that charge, we gathered every McLaren Vale grenache we could find and tasted them blind against a panel of winemakers, sommeliers and wine buyers. The McLaren Vale Grenache Deep Dive Pack gives you direct access to that tasting. Rather than picking a single bottle off the shelf, you’re getting a curated trio assembled from the wines our panel rated most highly – a cross-section of the region’s range, from light, crunchy, almost-pinot-like styles through to deeper, more structured, whole-bunch-driven reds.
How it works
Reserve your pack now with a 10% deposit. Pooling demand across our customers lets us secure the best-performing wines from the Deep Dive tasting at the best value and in proper allocation – rather than locking in a fixed list before we know what’s available. Once your pack is confirmed, we’ll take the remaining 90% from your nominated payment details and ship immediately, with your three wines and full tasting notes revealed in your My Cellar at that point. Wines are expected to ship in September.

The story behind the category
Grenache arrived in Australia in 1832 and was once the nation’s most widely planted grape, before falling out of fashion through most of the 20th century as shiraz took over. McLaren Vale held onto some of its oldest vines through the lean years, and over the last ten to fifteen years a new generation of winemakers has used that old-vine resource – paired with earlier picking and techniques like whole-bunch fermentation – to reshape what grenache from the region can be. The wines our panel tasted ranged from light, fragrant and almost Beaujolais-like through to deep, savoury and structured, with several panellists comparing the best examples favourably to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the variety’s most famous home in the south of France.
